The website, which I regret to say was shut before I had a chance to look at it, was described on Reuters as follows:
A Web site offering young Muslims the chance to learn all about explosives and the "art of bone breaking" was shut down this week under a new British crackdown on Islamic extremists. The site is www.sakina.fsbusiness.co.uk, but before you call it up on your web browser--I've already tried, and it "has no DNS address."Police sources told Reuters Thursday that the closure of the London-based Sakina Securities Web site ... followed the arrest Monday of one of its instructors on terrorism charges. The 43-year-old alleged Sakina instructor -- police refuse to name him -- is one of two men being held on terrorism charges in Britain as it tightens the net on militants.
Another source identifies the arrested instructor as Sulayman Zain-ul-Abidin, with an office in Camden. He was being questioned at the Paddington Green high-security police station about his activities raising money for a banned terrorist organisation, the Islamic Jihad Group. The office belongs to Sakina Security Ltd, which offered "a variety of services on its website including weapons training in the USA for Muslim youths."
The most intriguing part of the website was entitled the Ultimate Jihad Challenge, a two week course for young people "on our 1,000-acre state of the art shooting range in the United States." Students got to fire up to 3,000 rounds of live ammunition of various calibers, "improvise explosive devices," or learn all about bone crushing.
Sakina, which called itself an "international security firm," claimed on the site that it had sent fighters to Afghanistan and Chechnya. The Web site said Sakina "prides itself on high-risk jobs in the former Soviet Union and in the civil war arenas of the world." It also promised to train Muslims in self-defense and outdoor survival strategies.
Reuters interviewed Sakina founder Mohammed Jameel in 1999, at which time he explained: "Islam is not an aggressive belief but we have the right and the obligation to defend ourselves. "We are not going to escalate violence because we're restricted in what we do by Islamic law."
