Former Taliban ruler Mullah Muhammad Omar, officially escaped with a motorbike in late 2001. Various media sources reported, that Omar was still alive at the end of 2002. In a May 2002 interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, a sister publication of Arab News, Omar insisted that Osama Bin Laden is still alive. The authenticy of his statements had never been proved.
